Willy Brandes (1876-1946) was a famous German painter. He was born in Bornstädt near Potsdam. When he was young, he learned painting as a job. Later, he went to school to learn more about painting from great teachers like Albert Hertel and Paul Friedrich Meyerheim. He also studied with Eugen Bracht.
Brandes showed his paintings many times at a big art show in Berlin. In 1914, he helped start a group of artists called "die Aehre." They worked together to make art. In 1924, they had a big art show in Berlin, where Brandes also showed his work.
During a time when Germany was ruled by the Nazis, Brandes joined groups related to art. He was part of exhibitions and groups that supported the Nazis. This was a tough time for artists, and Brandes had to deal with these challenges.
