Sebastião Salgado Photography | Brazilian Photographer 1944

Sebastião Salgado was born on February 8, 1944 in the state of Mines Gerais, Brazil. He is a Brazilian social photojournalist and documentary photographer. He is a trained economist and has master’s degree in economics from the University of San Paulo in Brazil. He started to work as an economist for the International Coffee Organization and often used to travel Africa on missions of the World Bank, It was from that time he started to take photography seriously. In 1973 he decided to switch his career from an economist to photography. He has traveled in over 100 countries for his photographic projects. Salgado has been awarded numerous major photographic prizes in recognition of his accomplishments. He is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and an honorary member of the Academy of Arts and Sciences in the United States.
